Thyme

Although there are at least fifty varieties of thyme, the two most useful types for a herb garden are Garden Thyme and Lemon Thyme. Of these two, Lemon Thyme has a less pungent aroma.

Thyme is another herb which grows wild in the Mediterranean area. Like many other plants, it was brought to England by the Romans, and was widely used for its medicinal values. Since it is one of the ingredients in a bouquet garni, thyme is a valuable addition to any garden. The bushes are also a favourite with bees and so are useful to help with the fertilization of fruit trees and vegetable flowers.
