Lavender

Lavender is probably one of the most easily recognized plants in the herb garden. The many varieties, all of which are medicinal, form shrubby bushes with long fragrant flower spikes. Originating in the Mediterranean area, Lavender is now widely grown, and oil of lavender, produced from the flowers and flower stalks, is used in perfume, bath preparations, and household cleaners. The perfume, while having a pleasantly relaxing and refreshing effect in toilet preparations, is equally valuable as an insect deterrent.
