Dill

Over 3,000 years ago Dill was recorded in Egyptian hieroglyphics as a medicinal herb. The Romans brought it to England, and today it is widely used on the Continent for flavouring and for making cucumber pickles. It is' also used in Scandinavian countries instead of parsley for garnishing food. In Europe sprigs of Dill are added to the cooking water for potatoes and peas, instead of the traditional mint. The leaves have an unusual flavour, almost a mixture of caraway and lemon; because of this Dill is sometimes used for perfuming soaps.
