Chamomile

The most widely-known use of this herb is as a sweet smelling lawn but Chamomile also has valuable medicinal properties. The plants are small and compact, sending out runners which make it ideal for lawns and paths, where the bruised leaves give off a pleasant, apple-like aroma. It cannot, however, be closely mown or cut, and must not be treated with weedkillers but a Chamomile lawn will keep green without watering, and is ideal for dry, sunny positions. The plant is known in Spain as Manzanilla, and is used for flavouring the sherry of that name.
