Dysmenorrhoea - Symptom, Causes, Home Remedies of Dysmenorrhoea

What is Dysmenorrhoea ?

Dysmenorrhoea is characterised by colicky pain and there is also prostration and vomiting. If the pain precedes the menstrual period, it is due to irritation in the ovary and is generally accompanied by pain in the groin.

Symptoms & Causes of Dysmenorrhoea

Cause of dysmenorrhoea is inflammation of the various internal organs like the uterus, the ovaries, or the fallopian tubes, that is, those that connect the ovaries with the uterus. Sometimes, the disorder is due to nervous causes, in which case there are spasmodic pains.

In cases of scanty discharge of menstrual blood, the main cause should be diagnosed and removed. If it is due to anaemia, the treatment for anaemia is a prerequisite to the treatment of amenorrhoea. Aggravated dyspepsia, prolonged malaria, or Bright's disease should be treated first, in case they have given rise to scanty and painful discharge. In cases where the exact cause is not known, general tonics and remedies for improving the health of the patient should be administered.
