Molluscum Contagiosum (MC) is an infection that causes red or flesh-colored lesions on the human skin.  As for size, they are 1-5 millimeters in diameter having a little indentation in the center. People of every age are susceptible to this viral disease. Normally they are painless but may grow sometimes irritating and itching. Scratching or scuffing further increases the infection. Eczema, a non-contagious inflammation of the skin gets developed around infected place in about ten percent cases. In some cases the dimpled and infected skin may also bleed. Since the infection is bound only to the upper layer of the epidermis, it does not penetrate further and gets removed as soon as it disappears from the body.

Molluscum Contagiosum Virus (MCV), a DNA poxvirus is the main virus that develops molluscum contagiosum. MCV is limited to human beings only for it has no reservoirs in animals. MCV is generally categorized into four types: MCV1 to MCV 4, the first being the most common. Children up to 12 years age, people with deficient immunity system and sexually active people are most prone to this viral disease. Trunk, legs and arms are the parts of body most affected by molluscum contagiosum.

Its transaction to other people is mainly because of physical contact. Fomites also spread this virus over to other people. Even this virus has the potential to extend from one body part to the other. However, it takes approximately six months to appear on the skin after infecting it.

Histologists observe that molluscum pathogens are found in the epidermis above the stratum basal, which consists of large cells with abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm and a small peripheral nucleus. It is therefore diagnosis of molluscum contagiosum is conducted on clinical appearance and verified by excisional biopsy.

Individual molluscums usually flake away on their own after staying from six to eight weeks, to two or three months. However, through autoinoculation, the disease may spread and so an epidemic occurrence generally lasts longer with mean durations ranging between eight to sixteen months. Treatment is often considered to be unnecessary for the virus diminishes after staying for a short time completing his life-spam. This hypothesis gets strengthened when some treatment methods do not prove effective; they rather further the infection.

With molluscum contagiosum affecting a person cosmetically and putting him in isolation, people tend to apply a number of methods so that they may get rid of such ugly marks.  Of various treatment methods, the most effective and natural is the application of natural healing oils.  Tea tree oil is a natural antibacterial and works as a potent healer for skin diseases.
